His Story:
I started to have interest in yoga at 18. At that time, I read a book called "Power Yoga" and taught myself a sequence of sun salutation movements. The last time I started to practice intensively was during my last year at University in Canada. Every time when I saw some flexible yogi doing difficult poses on Internet or in books, I felt very amazed and I got lots of motivation to become as flexible as they are.
I did not follow seriously any yoga teacher. I just learned and imitated the yoga postures from the books and practiced on my own. However I did try one Sivananda yoga class. I found that too easy and boring. After graduation, I tried "Birkam's style Hot Yoga" in Toronto. In the beginning, I found it very enjoyable, because of lots of sweat and slimming, not until I felt dizzy and de-hydrated then I started not to like it.
I returned to HK last year. I continued to practice on my own. My favorite poses were back bending poses such as camel, advanced camel and bridge and front split. This was because I discovered I have a flexible spine and hamstring.
I have experienced Kamal's yoga in Planet yoga. I liked it because it can strengthen my muscle and I could sweat in a natural way. I tried Hatha yoga which I found boring. I also tried some Ashtanga yoga and was impressed with doing scorpion and headstand. So I started to practice alone at home and it took me one month to able to perform them. I was a little proud of myself at that time.
Not long later, my friend introduced me to Dickson Yoga and I met Master Dickson Lau. I showed him some of my yoga pictures and he told me about my strengths and weaknesses. He suggested that I should work more on the flexibility of my shoulder and hip, I also told Dickson that I was interested in the yoga profession so he introduced me to attend his teacher training course.
I started to join Dickson's regular classes and teacher training course in September this year. I have been practicing with Dickson for 2 months. During these 2 months, I experienced the true in-depthness of yoga and the real feeling of being stretched to limit. I found that Dickson's yoga method is very effective that both my shoulder and hip are now more flexible. I have not experienced such yogic intensity in Canada on my own and in Planet yoga. I thank Master Dickson and I admire his style of yoga. |
