Her Story:
I had my first contact with yoga early in my childhood. I vaguely remembered opening my mother’s bookshelves looking for books to kill time. Amongst the many different books, there were 2 on yoga. Frankly speaking, apart from the recipe books, the 2 yoga books were the only ones that appealed to me, as there were a lot of pictures in them. But when I studied them in more detail, oh no! Those poses are just not for a normal human being. So that’s it for me with yoga!
After I started working, I picked up yoga again from a yoga teacher. I practiced yoga with him for almost a year, but felt I only made little progress. I had tried hot yoga. But found the movements too fast paced, the air too dry and too hot, and I just wanted the class to end sooner. And then a thought came to my mind – I must seek a new breakthrough in my yoga practice. I searched for yoga courses alternatives throughout HK and finally I was being introduced by my friend to the Yoga Teacher Training program conducted by Master Dickson. But at that time I was too tied up with work and my other ventures, I had to suspend my yoga plan.
It was not until end August that I started taking yoga lessons by Master Dickson. The first class already gave me an amazing feel - unique poses, together with movements and breathing, made me, who always had difficulty perspiring, soaked with sweat. Master Dickson always mentions the “qi” of yoga, this is a brand new concept to me and I have never encountered the term from my previous yoga practice. From Master Dickson, I have this “qi” experience : to taste “qi”, first work on a particular part of your body till it numbs, during the process relax your mind , the more numb, the more you relax. After around 1-2 minutes, resume to normal position, next you would a surge of heat as a result of blood rushing to that part of the body, this is the feeling of “qi’. This process not only washes away toxic elements and cholesterol from your veins, but also purifies your blood – one of the reasons why such a health conscious person as I am would love Dickson Yoga.
Apart from the Teacher training program, I decide I might just as well take Dickson’s other yoga classes and from these classes, I learn how to appreciate yoga, how to relax when in pain, and my hip which used to be very tight also improves a lot in flexibility. But what really infatuates me is the profound feel which yoga gives me. To get this profound feel, first you must go to limit, that means stretching the concerned area to limit till it hurts a little. Frankly speaking, each of us has an inert disposition, if we practice by ourselves, we tend to hold back a little to avoid pain. But Dickson will correct and upgrade my posture, help me challenge my own limit yoga and pushes us to go further for each pose to taste this profound feel of yoga. He will teach me to focus on breathing and relax when in pain and gradually my body becomes more flexible and I also get the satsifaction of going beyond my old limit.
It's only a few months and I have already benefited a lot. Apart from a deeper understanding of the different yoga poses, an upgrade of my yoga techniques and teaching techniques, building up of my confidence in yoga and yoga teaching, these few months enables me to truly appreciate and enjoy the profundity of yoga. |
